I was asked to create a diverse group of characters for an anthropology text book titled Through the Lens of Anthropology for the University or Toronto Press (publishing date Summer 2019). The characters are inspired by some of the people that are referenced in the book, others are people I’ve seen in the street and some just come from the imagination.
From right to left they are: Girl wearing kente cloth, teenager, prison inmate, cool gender-neutral person, large Kenyan mama, football lovin’ kid, multi-ethnic woman, African American chef, curious child, Laura Gonzales (the author), Afghan skater girl, hipster dad with baby, South American environmental mama, businessman, trans-gender person, cool blind granny, kid with tech, Chinese girl with ‘peace’ pose, cool young Sikh guy.
